Topic: Children in Disasters: Trauma, Development, and Psychological First Aid
Join DE BEST for our Quarterly Virtual Meeting, featuring a focused training on supporting children during and after disasters through a trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate lens.
This session will explore how disasters impact children differently by age and stage, common trauma responses seen in infants through adolescents, and how Psychological First Aid (PFA) can be used by responders, volunteers, educators, and community partners to promote safety, calm, connection, and resilience.
ALL volunteers are encouraged to attend - and invite an adult guest.
The meeting will include:
- Program updates and DE BEST announcements
- An interactive presentation: Children in Disasters
- Practical examples and real-world application of PFA
- Time for questions, reflection, and discussion
This training is appropriate for:
- DE BEST volunteers (new and experienced)
- Behavioral health professionals
- Educators, school staff, and community partners
- Anyone supporting children and families impacted by crisis or disaster
Format: Virtual (Zoom - see link below)
