Volunteer Deployment Opportunity – DE BEST (Staff Support Response)
DE BEST is coordinating a staff support response following a recent critical incident impacting hotel employees. This deployment focuses on providing a calm, supportive, and confidential space where staff may voluntarily access Psychological First Aid (PFA) and mental wellness resources.
Volunteers will support staff by offering presence, listening, and connection to resources that promote emotional safety, stabilization, and recovery.
Please note that one volunteer will be accompanied by a certified animal support dog. The facility has been informed and has provided prior approval for the animal’s presence as part of the supportive response environment.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers may be asked to:
- Support a quiet, private on-site space designated for staff support
- Provide a calm, welcoming, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed presence
- Offer supportive, compassionate communication and basic Psychological First Aid (PFA) when appropriate
- Share mental wellness resources and information about the Delaware Hope Line
- Help staff feel heard, respected, and supported at their own pace
- Document general themes or unmet needs (no identifying information)
Note: This response is voluntary and staff-focused. Volunteers should not initiate conversations, ask probing questions, or discuss details of the incident. Support is offered only to those who choose to engage.

Volunteers should be prepared to:
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy at all times
- Follow on-site guidance regarding space use and staff flow
- Prioritize emotional safety and respectful boundaries
Volunteer Requirements
- Complete required training via DETRAIN.org (PFA or CCP)
- Sign the Code of Conduct and Photo Release Waiver (digitally)
- Upload all certificates to your SERVDE.org profile
- Be confirmed as a fully qualified volunteer by DE BEST staff

After You Sign Up
- We’ll review your profile to verify eligibility
- Approved volunteers will receive an email with:
- Exact location and access instructions
- Parking information
- Site safety and confidentiality reminders
- A final reminder will be sent prior to your shift
Timekeeping & Reporting
Please clock in and out using the Causer app or the web portal link provided in your final email.
After your shift, you will be asked to report:
- Approximate number of people engaged
- Resources shared
- General unmet needs or themes observed (no identifying details)
