As we get into the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane season, we wanted to remind you that it is never too late to be prepared for a hurricane and the major impacts that one can bring. If you've been following the news this week, Hurricane Lee has formed in the Central Atlantic and is forecast to become a major hurricane by the weekend as it moves toward the Leeward Islands.
While it is still too far out to determine if this will affect us or not, we want to make sure that you and your family are prepared and that you are also monitoring the situation for any possible impacts down the road. Here are some tips to help you keep you informed and prepared:
- Always get your information from trusted sources (the National Weather Service/National Hurricane Center, your local news stations and meteorologists, state/local governments and agencies, etc.). Situational awareness is one of the main keys of preparedness!
- Review and practice your family's safety plan now to ensure your family is ready in case the forecast changes.
- Have your go-bags ready with all necessary items in case the forecast changes.
- Keep checking your emails daily (multiple times a day is highly recommended!).
