September 27th we introduced our new Committee Board Leader, Adele Abrams.
Adele led discussions throughout the meeting to help us grow as a team. Many volunteers came up with some splendid ideas for DE BEST development.

1) Welcome (Adele) - called to order at 6:30 p.m.
(Adele) - Introduced herself as the new Committee Chair, and had
volunteers introduce themselves as well.d foreign languages were noted.
2) Review/Reconstruct
Mission Statement
(Adele) - Mentioned to the volunteers if they have any ideas of what they would
like to focus on as a committee to email her so we can start reconstructing our
mission as a committee
Open discussion to clear up confusion amongst volunteers about the difference
between the mission for DE BEST as a whole and the mission statement for
just the committee. There was also discussion and some confusion about how
DE BEST and RespondDE align, some belong to both.
3) Recruitment
Measures
(Adele) - Spoke on the concern of not having enough materials in Sussex County
and that she could distribute more materials to get the recruitment up.
(Adele)- Mentioned that having more Spanish speaking4) Volunteer
Development
(Adele) - Asked volunteers if they are actively using the site. Most admitted they
have been having trouble working the site.
Action Item 1: Do a
run through of the site
for everyone for
Quarterly Meeting.
5) Engagement
Opportunities
(Adele)- Recommended we start taking photos of what we do at deployments,
show some interactiveness so people will be more engaged. Privacy
concerns respected.
Volunteers recommended we do vol recruitments at Community groups as
well. Student volunteer recruitment at Del Tech. (Marilyn)- Mentioned she has
connections with Wilmington University.Develop uniform PPT presentation.

6) Knowledge Sharing (Yvonne) - Mentioned that there is an upcoming SAMSHA update and
recommended we have that training presented for the next meeting.
7) Open Forum (Faith)- Wants to know if we could have face to face training soon so volunteers
that don't feel prepared have some real hands-on training.
(Bonnie) - Would like Celeste to attend the upcoming committee meetings.
Bonnie and other volunteers feel like it would be more structured with her
presence.
