First and foremost, a special thank you to Officer Smith whom presented "Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events / CRASE Course" for is this past February. This is a topic we unfortunately experience too much in the world today. Thank you to the volunteers who participated in this training, your electronic certificate has been emailed to you. If you attended and did not receive your certificate, please email DEBESTVolunteers@gmail.com.
Please see below the highlighted topics that were covered in this training and additional course information Officer Smith's offers.
This Active Shooter presentation was straightforward and to the point. We reviewed raw active shooter footage from different states that many of us are all familiar with. As the videos were reviewed Officer Smith highlighted important details that may have been missed, as well as volunteers pointed out behavior that occurred in each scenario. Officer Smith broke down each question and one important question that was asked ...
What should we do in a situation like this?
This question sparked the Freeze, Flight, and Fright topic because everyone will react different and most importantly we would not want anyone else's life put more at risk. In the event of the aftermath if you are willing to help a victim with CPR or aiding them with PFA, CCP, MHFA or any Mental Health Support, all the support is needed.
